I would like to talk about our last hiking this time. It was a trekking around 21 km up and down the mountains near to Tederas and Tunte. We started our hiking from the dam in Ayagaures, walking throught the wall of the dam to the other side and following the way up, leaving the dam on our left. The first hour of the way was quite hard, because it was all the time up and with no trees, so the sun made the properly effect to us. Once we got to the main way, there are two different ways so it could be confusing. Our target was to get to the big pine of Pilancones, that suppose to be the oldest of the whole island. To get there, need to take to the left at the main way and start walking into the pine forest. We kept walking during half hour more and we found another little way down throught the forest. The view walking down this little way it’s amazing. We could see little lakes on our way and the pine forest. One hour later we get to the biggest pine of the island, the “pine of Pilancones”. Unfortunately, the great pine fell down after the big fire that burned almost half island in the 2007, but it is still there like a grave in a sanctuary. They say that this pine its around 400 years old. Right in this area there are few stone tables where seems to be a good place to have a break and eat something before to continue the way.
We decided to resume the way in the same direction, because our hiking this time is a circle, so we don’t need to turn back. After walk half hour more we found a big stone table with a legend that says that it was used in the past for bring the coffins and rest. Back in the day, the people living in Ayagaures had to walk all this way up to Tunte. Specially when somebody died in that time, their family had to carry the coffin by walking all the way up to Tunte. That’s why there some stone tables on the way to take a break on the way. Following this way down to Ayagaures again came the hardest part. The way turns rocky and difficult. Fortunately on the way there are few ropes to help yourself to walk down. We didn’t have to walk so much until see a small valley with few ruins of houses.
After a little break to recover our energy and drink a bit, we began our way again, this time its going up for few minutes. Once we get to a big way (good enough for a jeep) start to be flat surrounding the canyon with great views. This was the longest part, we had to walk almost 2 hours this way till we saw a big pipe that goes straight to the parking next to the dam so, we decided to walk on this pipe instead of keep walking the way (that way end up to the parking too). In our way back home, comments of our hiking, memories and photos reminded us that it was worth to do it.
